A napfogyatkozás csillagászati fogalma azt jelenti, hogy a Földről nézve egy rövid időre a Hold eltakarja a napot. Ez a jelenség akkor jön létre, amikor a Hold pontosan a Föld és a Nap közé kerül.

Az ékszeren a Nap és a Föld jelenik meg stilizálva, valamint a csillagokat idéző apró gömbök. Felvéve a viselő éppen a "Nap" és a "Föld" közé kerül.
